Confidence in Cybersecurity, Can You Put a Label on it? (B13d)
In May 2021 President Biden directed the the Secretary of Commerce acting through the Director of NIST, to identify cybersecurity criteria for a label for consumer IoT devices and conduct pilots based on the criteria. One year later NIST delivered a report to the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs that summarized the results of the NIST review the pilot programs, the consult with the private sector and agencies, and what improvements could be made. This presentation will discuss the principles that shaped the NIST approach to the initiative, the recommended criteria and proposed labeling approach and finally the considerations for next steps.
