Navigating EU Cybersecurity Regulations: Challenges for Smart Lock System Developers (Y12c)
The European Union has implemented a series of cybersecurity regulations aimed at improving the security and resilience of digital infrastructure across industries. Developers of smart locking systems, at the intersection of IoT, data privacy, and physical security, face a unique set of challenges in complying with these evolving standards. This joint talk with Assa Abloy explores the current regulatory landscape, including the EU Cybersecurity Act, the EU Cyber Resilience Act, and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and focuses on the open questions that developers encounter. Key issues include the interpretation of security-by-design requirements, managing supply chain vulnerabilities, ensuring interoperability, and addressing liability concerns. By highlighting these unresolved regulatory challenges, it aims to foster a deeper understanding of the compliance landscape and provide actionable insights for navigating cybersecurity regulations in the context of smart locking solutions.
