Preparation of Europe Against the Quantum Threat—How to Become Quantum Safe with PQC (A20b)
Since 2019, Deutsche Bahn has explored quantum technologies to optimize its assets—such as tracks, switches, and trains—and to assess the effects of quantum computers on IT and OT security. Deutsche Bahn has implemented quantum computing projects to demonstrate their commercial viability while also addressing the security risks the technology poses for IT and OT systems. Shor’s algorithm is known to break asynchronous encryption, and the central question remains when this will occur. With NIST scheduled to publish quantum-safe algorithms in August 2024, organizations and governments in Europe must prepare for Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC). This talk provides details on how to begin preparations and offers a roadmap for successful implementation.
