Securing the Point of Interaction Terminal Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (B21a)
In 2005, the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) was established with support from all global card schemes. Its first standard, PCI POS PED, set the benchmark for securing credit and debit PIN entry devices and has evolved from Version 1.0 to its current PCI POI Modular Security Requirements V6.0. This global standard applies to all terminals that accept global and most local card schemes. Over the years, it has expanded to cover encrypting PIN pads, unattended terminals, HSMs, and mobile POS PED.
Recently, PCI SSC has expanded its payment acceptance program to include Mobile Payments on COTS, enabling merchants operating outside traditional brick-and-mortar stores to accept card payments securely. This talk explains how the PCI POI PTS program works and how it can integrate into the European cybersecurity process to provide secure in-person payments that align with the EU Cybersecurity Act.
