Panel Discussion: What Should Be the Role of Basic Assurance and Self-Assessment in the CSA/CRA World? (S22b)
Basic assurance schemes that allow conformity self-assessment are often neglected, but they may apply to the largest number of potential products. This level can have the greatest impact on raising basic preparedness and cyber resilience across a nation. However, addressing this area is challenging due to complex cybersecurity requirements, contrasted with developers, customers, and users who may be less technically inclined and unfamiliar with cybersecurity norms. Additionally, evaluation approaches must be lightweight, as cybersecurity does not lead to premium pricing at this level. This talk gathers perspectives from national government representatives and possibly an insurance company representative, as insurance may be the most likely non-government motivator for adopting basic-level schemes.
